UK Global Talent Visa digital technology evidence guide
A practical explanation of the application pack, how the mandatory and optional criteria fit together, and what makes evidence persuasive rather than merely descriptive.
The document requirements at a glance
The criterion evidence must include at least two documents showing recognition as a leading or potential talent. It must also include at least four documents across two optional criteria, using two documents for each selected optional criterion. The same evidence document cannot be used for more than one criterion.
How MC and OC1 to OC4 work
Recognition
Evidence that other people in digital technology recognise you as a leader or potential leader within the last five years.
Innovation
A track record of innovation as a founder, senior executive or employee working on a new digital field or concept.
Work beyond your occupation
Recognition for activity outside your normal employment that contributes to advancing the digital technology field.
Significant contribution
Significant technical, commercial or entrepreneurial contribution within a product-led digital technology company.
Academic contribution
Exceptional ability demonstrated through research that has been published or endorsed by an expert.
What strong evidence normally proves
Your individual contribution: what you personally decided, designed, built, led or changed.
Measurable impact: adoption, revenue, users, efficiency, growth, reach or another result with a clear baseline.
Independent corroboration: credible third-party or employer evidence confirming the claim and your role.
Criterion relevance: a direct connection between the achievement and the exact criterion being claimed.
Recent recognition: evidence that supports the required recognition within the last five years.
Common evidence weaknesses
Job descriptions, screenshots and self-authored narratives can explain context, but they rarely prove impact alone. Strong packs separate responsibility from result, avoid counting team achievements as personal achievements, support important numbers, and remove contradictions across the CV, personal statement, letters and evidence.
Applicants should also avoid using one document for multiple criteria, exceeding page limits, relying heavily on evidence outside the relevant period, or filling all ten slots with weaker material simply because space is available.
Turn the guidance into a document-by-document action plan.
